Digital X-Rays

X-rays also called radiographs, are vital diagnostic tools to identify the hidden or underlying dental problems that are not detected during a regular dental exam. X-rays are essential aids to establishing a proper treatment plan. They are also useful in preventative procedures and help detect dental defects in the initial stages.

There are two types of dental x-rays, intra-oral and extra-oral x-rays. Intra-oral dental x-rays are taken by placing the x-ray sensor or film inside the mouth, and extra-oral dental x-rays are taken through x-ray sensors or films placed outside the mouth.

My Dentist at Morgan Creek - Dentist Looking at X-Ray

Digital x-rays are the latest advancements in x-ray technology where digital sensors are used instead of traditional x-ray films. The x-ray sensors are connected to the computer on which the image can be viewed instantly. Digital x-ray images can be magnified and adjusted for convenience to establish a final diagnosis.

Digital X-rays are invaluable for pre-treatment assessment since they allow the visualization of the abnormalities of teeth and surrounding structures. Dental X-rays are used to evaluate the position of the wisdom tooth and the extent of cysts and tumours.

Digital X-rays also help in assessing bone density before implant placement and before orthodontic treatment. Radiographs help to identify jaw fractures, tooth or root fractures, TMJ disorders, salivary gland disorders, bone defects and developmental defects of teeth and jaws.

SAFE DENTAL X-RAYS

Digital x-rays have up to 90% less exposure to radiation when compared to traditional x-ray films. The enhanced image quality allows for magnification and adjustments of the colour and contrast for a better understanding of the deeper structures.

Digital x-rays are faster and can be viewed immediately. They save time since they are not film-based and do not need the extra step of the film-development process.

Digital images have the benefit of being easily accessible and can be shared between patients and dentists at remote locations.

Digital x-rays are eco-friendly, in which the use of chemicals like developer solution and fixer solution are avoided.
